After School Staff/Coordinator

Pay: $12/hr for Staff, $15/hr for Coordinator

Hours: 2:45pm - 5:45pm daily

Responsibilities:

  • Help set goals and improve their performance in reading and math

  • Understand and support the school curriculum

  • Plan and prepare educational activities

  • Assist with homework, food and exercise periods

  • Communicate with parents and staff

  • Maintaining a clean, organized and safe program space

  • Attend to children’s academic and social needs during scheduled work hours

  • Additional duties as assigned

  • Urban Elementary School Youth

  • Act 33/34

  • Criminal & FBI Clearances

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Familiarity with Pittsburgh Public Schools highly preferred

Job Type: Full Time

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit high school and first year college students into the program

  • Complete and submit all required youth eligibility and funder paperwork

  • Develop goal plans with all of the students assigned to their caseload

  • Work with all of their assigned students to complete the tasks laid out in the goal plans

  • Manage Saturday College programs throughout the school year

  • Manage mandatory tutoring sessions for participating students two evening per week

  • Schedule and lead college and industry visits

  • Provide college preparation and work readiness trainings for participating youth

  • Engage parents and key school personnel in the development and completion of youth goal plans

  • Develop a pool of college mentors and match them with youth participants

  • Assist students with all stages of the college application processes including P/SAT prep and testing, college identification including HBCU options, college applications and essays, and college selection.

  • Develop a financial plan with each student/family and lead students/families through the financial processes including Pittsburgh Promise application, FAFSA tracker, FAFSA application, scholarship research and application, other grant and loan processes as necessary to cover college.

  • Develop and place students in appropriate worksite shadowing and internship experiences.

  • Manage student bus passes and checks.

  • Submit timely reports to NLA management and funders.

Qualifications:

  • Counseling - 1 year preferred

  • Relevant - 1 year preferred

  • Work with high school students - 2 years preferred

  • Bachelor’s preferred

  • Multiple locations throughout Pittsburgh. Must have a car.
