Morrow and Woolslair elementary schools each held a STEM & literacy appreciation night, inviting parents to come and experience some of the activities their children, the Little Learning Warriors, have participated in during their afterschool program. The activities were set up in various rooms, each room with a different theme such as painting with the youngest students, parents reading to the students, and various STEM activities. Food and refreshments were provided for everyone.
With the help of the Tech Warriors, STEM activities focused on three projects where they made slime, built bridges, and built straw rockets, which taught students about chemical changes and introductory engineering. The parents assisted their own children, encouraging them as they worked independently, and participated in the activities alongside their children.
Everything the students made they were able to take home as an example of their own proficiency in the STEM fields that might inspire them to explore further.
