HYPE Scholars event was held on Sunday August 6th at the Jeron X. Grayson Center. This event celebrated 8 Hype participants representing the following HYPE programs: Neighborhood Learning Alliance, School 2 Career, Higher Achievement, and Center that Cares. Two of the scholarship awardees included Cameron Rainey and Monet Spencer, both participants in our Carlow University College in High School program.
Each student received $500 to put towards college; one these students is NLA’s own Reading & Tech Warrior Monet Spencer. In addition, thanks to a generous matching donation from the Hill District Federal Credit Union’s William Blakey Scholarship fund, 2 of the 8 students were selected for an additional $2,000 scholarship. These two students are the 2017 HYPE Scholars, selected through a competitive process that involved an interview and essay submission. They are going to serve as ambassadors for HYPE programming for the upcoming school year. The winners are NLA’s Cameron Rainey and Cheyenne Vining with School 2 Career.
Congratulations to all of the hard-working and award-winning students!
