This school year, Neighborhood Learning Alliance has continued the Math Geniuses program it began this summer, providing great support for students to succeed in algebra. 7th and 8th graders receive a jump start in algebra readiness while 9th graders get a helping hand in current math courses. Students work their way through a self-paced math tutoring software package that can be used at the program site and at home, and is aligned with Pittsburgh Public School algebra academics as well as the Keystone Algebra Exam.
Students receive 1-on-1 and small group tutoring from Carnegie Mellon University undergraduates and other strong adult tutors, including members of the National Society of Black Engineers. In addition to tutoring, there is also 1 hour set aside each day for additional math homework help for students in the program.
